Lumi

Your Gemini key: limits & tips

Lumi thinking

Why your own key?

Lumi talks to Google's Gemini directly from your computer with a key that belongs to you. Your chats don't pass through our servers, and you only ever pay Google for what you use, if anything.

The free tier has a daily limit

Google's free keys have limits per minute and per day. Lumi's own cute voice and the screen-watching feature use some of that too, so on a busy day a free key can run out.

When that happens, Lumi doesn't go silent: he switches to your computer's built-in voice for a while, and tries his own voice again an hour later. Limits reset every day.

How to never run out

  • Turn on billing for your key in Google AI Studio. You pay only for what you use, and for chatting with Lumi that's usually very little.
  • Switch off Watch my screen when you don't need it.
  • Use text chat for long coding questions, and voice for quick chats.

Please don't create lots of keys to get around the limits. It's against Google's rules and can get keys blocked.
